Just For Fun

He is so damn cute I can't stand it! Just a little biased - I know :-) Wyatt is trying really hard to roll over and he made the lights on his swing come on by pulling the links - what a big boy. These pictures are from a couple weeks ago - he doesn't have the tube in anymore! I feel like he's still gaining weight. I get him weighed tommorrow and that will be the "D-day" for us. Everyone send us lots of good luck and good vibes/white light.

Shots and Ear Tubes

Our poor little man had a rough week last week. He got his 4 month immunization shots on Thursday afternoon. The 3 shots to the thighs left him stiff and feverish. He was so sore he wouldn't stand up - and that's his favourite activity! That night at 2:30am I called the nurseline about giving him Tylenol for his pain and fever and was told not to give him anything as the surgeon may not want to put him under for the first time with a foriegn substance in his blood. Poor sweetie.

On Friday he had his first set of ear tubes put in. Since he was be put under for the surgery we could not feed him anything after midnight. I fed right up to 12am and talked the receptionist into booking us for a 6:30am check-in, rather than 7am so that he would be under by 7:30am and wouldn't notice he was hungry - it worked. The "surgery" took 15-20 minutes tops. He was very cranky for the rest of the day with his sore legs and ears but by Saturday he was back to normal.

The surgeon found puss in Wyatt's ear and a lot more build up than then they had originally suspected. He said it was a good thing we got the tubes put in when we did. Wyatt is hearing better and has been getting startled quite a bit. We have a follow up appointment with the surgeon and audiologist next Wednesday to see how he's healed and what his hearing is like.

A bonus is that we now know that Wyatt does not seem to have any bad reactions to the anethesia - one less thing to worry about for his palate surgery.

Its Amazing!

We asked the Dr if we could get Wyatt's feeding tube replaced on Monday so that we could see how he'd do without the night time feedings (we also wanted to get pictures taken without it!) She said that would be o.k. and scheduled us for the procedure on Monday a.m.

Friday: Wyatt took 6 x 3oz bottles - he's never eaten 3oz on every bottle. But 18oz for the day is still not enough (pediatrician wants him to eat 24oz).

Saturday - Wyatt ate 2 x 4oz bottles and the rest 3oz! OMG

Sunday - Wyatt ate 3 x 4ox bottles! His grand total was 22oz for the day. Eric and I talked and decided not to take him in this morning to get another feeding tube placed and to see where Wyatt's new appetite takes us.

The nutritionist gave us a recipe to increase the calories of my breast milk to 27calories per ounce so that if he takes a few days to get to 24oz he'll still be meeting his nutritional needs. Wyatt's pediatrician said we need to come in for a weight check this Thursday and then come back in two weeks to see if he's gaining o.k. I am so nervous and so pleased at the same time. Hopefully he tolerates the extra formula in his bottles! Wish us luck! This may be the end of the feeding tube!

I Feel So Alone

That stupid feeding tube connection finally bit the dust tonight. It began leaking so bad that when Wyatt sneezed it would back up and spray stomach fluid onto his face. I had no option - I took it out because I know from the feeding tube before this one that there's nothing they can do once the connection is compromised.

I don't want to go to the hospital tomorrow. I've already had 3 appointments this week. I have to stay awake and feed Wyatt every 3 hrs and he still won't reach his daily goal - plus I have to pump. Eric has gone to bed so that he can get up for work at 5am. Its too late to call anyone - I'm not sure what I'd say anyway - all I want to do is cry! I am so frustrated. Some days are so good and other days I feel so defeated.
